Former Party Central Committee Secretary and former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan passed away at 7:05 a.m. on June 21 at the 108 Central Military Hospital.

According to the Central Committee for the Protection and Care of Cadres' Health, comrade Vu Khoan, born in 1937, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Deputy Prime Minister, after a period of illness, despite the Party, State, professors and doctors' devoted treatment and the wholehearted care of his family, due to old age and poor health, he passed away at 7:05 a.m. on June 21, 2023 at the 108 Central Military Hospital.

The visitation, memorial service and burial ceremony of comrade Vu Khoan will be announced later.

Comrade Vu Khoan, born on October 7, 1937, in Phu Xuyen district, Hanoi .

Comrade Vu Khoan was a member of the Party Central Committee, 7th, 8th, 9th terms; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, 9th term; National Assembly Delegate, 11th, 12th terms; Deputy Prime Minister (August 2002 - June 2006).

Comrade Vu Khoan has held the positions of: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (1990), Minister of Trade (2000); Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Foreign Economic Relations, Chairman of the National Committee on APEC (2002).

In 1990, Comrade Vu Khoan was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. At the 7th National Party Congress (1991), he was elected to the Party Central Committee. In 1998, Comrade Vu Khoan was assigned as First Deputy Minister in charge of relations with countries in the Asia-Pacific region, relations with ASEAN, ASEM, APEC, research, economic cooperation, consular affairs, law, press, and training.

In 2000, Comrade Vu Khoan was awarded the title of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary by the President. In January 2000, he was approved by the National Assembly to be appointed as Minister of Trade. In August 2002, he was approved by the National Assembly to be appointed as Deputy Prime Minister, assigned to be in charge of Foreign Economic Relations, and Chairman of the National Committee on APEC.

At the 8th National Party Congress (1996), comrade Vu Khoan continued to be elected to the Party Central Committee.

At the 9th National Party Congress (2001), he continued to be elected to the Party Central Committee and the Secretariat.

Comrade Vu Khoan was a National Assembly delegate of the 10th and 11th terms.

In June 2006, the National Assembly approved his dismissal from the position of Deputy Prime Minister due to health reasons. In 2007, he retired in Hanoi.

He was awarded many noble titles by the Party and State: First-class Independence Medal, First-class Labor Medal, Second-class Resistance War Medal against America for National Salvation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Title, 60-year Party membership badge in November 2021.

Comrade Vu Khoan was awarded by the Governments of various countries: the Order of Friendship of Peoples (former Soviet Union), the First Class Order of Freedom (Laos), and the Order of the Rising Sun (Japan)./.
