How good is Sesko compared to Gyokeres?

Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres are two notable "blockbusters" in the Premier League this summer, promising to create an interesting competition.

Sesko received many expectations when joining MU.

Gyokeres, a €73 million signing from Arsenal, has just had an explosive season with 39 goals in 33 matches in the Portuguese national championship. He helped Sporting Lisbon win the title convincingly. Notably, Gyokeres' number of goals is 3 times more than Sesko, who only scored 13 goals in the same number of matches for RB Leipzig.

Meanwhile, Sesko did not have the same outstanding stats as Gyokeres, as he only helped Leipzig finish 7th in the Bundesliga and did not qualify for European competition. Sesko averaged one shot every 35 minutes. He had a total of 68 shots, ranking 16th among Bundesliga forwards.

However, Sesko has shown remarkable goalscoring ability, exceeding expectations by 6.3 goals in 2023/24 and 3.1 in the most recent campaign, with a chance conversion rate of 19.1%.

Sesko's ability to create goals is inferior to Gyokeres. The new MU player only created 19 scoring opportunities for his teammates last season, while Gyokeres' number was 62.

One of Sesko's strengths is his aerial ability. At 1.95m tall, he participates in more aerial duels than Gyokeres (1.88m) and wins 57.4% of them.

Despite his large body, Sesko possesses impressive speed, reaching a top speed of 35.7 km/h, among the fastest strikers in the Bundesliga.

The combination of height and good speed gives Sesko great potential for development. This is also the reason why Leipzig is asking for more than 80 million euros for any club wanting to have their main striker.

The match between two expensive rookies on the attack line in the Premier League next season is worth waiting for.
