On January 7, reporters present at Dinh Ban Secondary School (Dinh Ban Commune, Ha Tinh City) recorded that two blocks of buildings including classrooms and functional rooms were degraded.

In the block of 12 classrooms, the walls are cracked and the paint is peeling off. In the functional block of 8 classrooms, large patches of plaster have peeled off the ceiling and beams, exposing the steel.

In addition, the school yard has been paved with bricks for a long time, and in the rainy season the yard is covered with moss, making it slippery.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Khuong - acting principal of Dinh Ban Secondary School - informed that the block of 12 classrooms was put into operation in 2003, and after more than 20 years, it has been degraded, affecting the overall teaching and learning activities of the school.

In 2020, this building was repainted, but quickly deteriorated, peeled off, and lost its beauty.

Meanwhile, the functional block was completed and put into use in 2004. Recently, this block has been more severely damaged, sometimes the walls in the hallway area peel off and fall down, so the school regularly reminds students not to go near it.

Even the teachers here have to regularly check and when they discover any cracks, plaster, or peeling walls, they proactively use a pole to poke and remove them to avoid them falling unexpectedly on the heads of teachers and students.

“Currently, the school has 13 classes but only 12 classrooms. Because the functional buildings are degraded and dangerous for students, on days of heavy rain and strong winds, the school closes the functional buildings to ensure safety,” said Mr. Khuong.

According to Mr. Khuong, although the classrooms have been degraded for many years, they have not been repaired or rebuilt because the school is located in the Thach Khe iron mine planning area and the school does not have any capital.

“Currently, the whole school has 496 students in 13 classes. It is expected that next year the number of classes will increase, so the school really hopes that the authorities at all levels and the education sector will pay attention to investing in infrastructure, schoolyards, and repairing degraded classrooms so that teachers and students can teach with peace of mind,” added Mr. Khuong.
