On the morning of December 15, Quang Nam Central General Hospital (located in Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam ) launched its first open heart surgery program.
The program was attended by leading experts from Hanoi Heart Hospital.
To implement the program, on July 19, Quang Nam Central General Hospital established the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery to develop the cardiovascular field at the unit.
The hospital is equipped with modern medical facilities and equipment that meet international standards, with a team of experts, doctors, and leading physicians in the field of examination and surgery for acquired heart diseases and congenital heart diseases.
Doctors from Hanoi Heart Hospital and Quang Nam Central General Hospital performed open heart surgery on a 58-year-old female patient.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hung, Director of Quang Nam Central General Hospital, said that the hospital regularly organizes training courses on cardiology, cardiovascular emergency, diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart disease, etc. The hospital also invites leading heart experts from within and outside the country to exchange and teach; and receives open heart surgery techniques from Hanoi Heart Hospital.
According to Mr. Hung, implementing open heart surgery for patients right in Quang Nam province is a big step forward and also an important milestone affirming the efforts and development of the unit, helping to reduce treatment costs and avoid having to transfer patients far away.
This is also considered a strong step forward in comprehensive health care for people in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and the Central Highlands.
Speaking at the program launch, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, expected that Quang Nam Central General Hospital will meet the standards of a grade 1 general hospital by 2025 and be a trusted address for people in the area.
At the same time, it is recommended that the hospital closely follow functional requirements, fully prepare human resources, materials, and means to proactively adapt to development, and affirm its brand in the future.
After the program, Quang Nam Central General Hospital performed the first two open heart surgeries for two female patients. Specifically, one patient (58 years old) had aortic valve stenosis; one patient (62 years old) had aortic regurgitation, coronary artery stenosis, mitral valve regurgitation...
