Reuters news agency reported that the resolution received 19 votes in favor, 12 abstentions, 3 votes against from China, Russia, Burkina Faso while one member did not vote.

The IAEA Board of Governors adopted the resolution on November 21, asking the UN watchdog to issue a “comprehensive” report on Iran by spring next year, diplomatic sources said.

This is the second time the IAEA has made a similar move in the past five months.

According to sources, European countries including Britain, France, Germany (E3 group) proposed the resolution, with the support of the US, aiming to pressure Iran to enter negotiations on new restrictions on its nuclear activities.

The move comes amid doubts about whether US President-elect Donald Trump will return to the negotiating table after he takes office in January 2025. Iran also tends to oppose resolutions against it.

Previously, on November 20, Iran and the IAEA reaffirmed their commitment to continue dialogue and interaction to resolve differences and other issues on the bilateral agenda.

According to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry , during a phone call between Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi on the same day, the two sides emphasized the need to refrain from confrontational and unconstructive approaches.

Foreign Minister Araghchi should also be clear that Iran will react “appropriately” when Western powers propose the above-mentioned resolution against Tehran.

Now, after the IAEA passed a resolution ignoring Iran's warning, Tehran has announced it will launch a series of "new and advanced centrifuges of various types" in response.
