In the war, facing the enemy's most modern weapons, the barefoot, steel-willed troops marched across mountains and rivers, bravely fighting with an iron will. They were the living symbols of revolutionary heroism, turning the slogan "Die for the Fatherland, live for the Fatherland" into reality. Millions of soldiers fell on the battlefield. The white heads sent their children off to battle, their eyes filled with tears but still shining with steadfast faith. That was the boundless sacrifice of an entire generation for the independence and freedom of the nation.

The greatest love of a soldier is the love of the Fatherland. There are people who have lived their whole lives for that sacred love. Colonel, Hero of the People's Armed Forces Huynh Tri, former Political Commissar of the An Giang Provincial Military Command, recounted the fierce and fierce battles when he was a soldier of the Reconnaissance Squad, Battalion 512, An Giang Provincial Military Command, sent to reconnoiter the enemy. However, when he went to the field and grasped favorable conditions, he cleverly fought to intercept two weapons trucks, controlling the driver to transport all the weapons back to the unit. In the battle, there were victories but also losses and sacrifices. He could not forget the battle in Thanh Binh (Dong Thap) when he commanded 11 comrades to attack the enemy. Between the line of life and death, 8 comrades were sacrificed. The wounded comrade named Kieu, before leaving, still kept in his shirt pocket a piece of paper with the song "Uncle is marching with us". Later, Colonel, People's Armed Forces Hero Huynh Tri spent 20 years searching for hundreds of martyrs' remains. Each martyr who returned to his homeland was a touching story, deeply imbued with comradely affection.

The war was fierce but the soldiers fought bravely, not thinking about the day of returning home. In the memory of Lieutenant General Nguyen Tien Long, former Deputy Commander of Politics of Military Region 3, shared about the days of fighting in Laos from 1964 to 1973. As part of Battalion 51, Regiment 148, Division 316, Northwest Military Region, soldier Nguyen Tien Long and his comrades fought in the Plain of Jars-Xieng Khouang area. The battle was fierce, bombs and bullets rained down on the PhuKhut mountain range, which was over 1,000m high, causing the altitude to drop by many meters. Each meter of rock and soil soaked in the blood of many comrades who sacrificed their lives. That speaks to the fierceness and cruelty of the war. But all fought steadfastly side by side with the Pathet Lao soldiers to control the battlefield. Throughout history, the Vietnamese and Lao peoples have maintained a spirit of solidarity, friendship, and joined forces to fight against the common enemy.

The memories of war that Colonel, Hero of the People's Armed Forces Huynh Tri and Lieutenant General Nguyen Tien Long shared help today's generation to appreciate the value of peace , independence and freedom. Through the war, the generation of fathers and brothers wrote history with their youth and blood.
Paying tribute to previous generations, Colonel Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Brigade Commander of Brigade 162 (Naval Region 4) expressed his emotions when meeting and listening to historical witnesses recounting stories of sacrifice and dedication to the Fatherland. Colonel Vu Anh Tuan shared: “My father is a Hero of the People's Armed Forces, Colonel Vu Huy Le, captain of ship HQ-505, Brigade 125 (Naval Region 2) participating in protecting the Truong Sa archipelago in 1988. I grew up from my father's tragic stories in the fight to protect the sea and islands of the Fatherland. Inspired by his story, I followed in my father's footsteps and joined the ranks of the Vietnam People's Army. On my voyages to carry out my duties, I am always proud to be the son of a hero, a marine soldier. That is the fulcrum for me to be determined to fulfill my duty of protecting the sacred sea and islands of the Fatherland."
Colonel Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Brigade Commander of Brigade 162 (Naval Region 4) expressed his gratitude to the generation of fathers and brothers who sacrificed their blood and bones for the nation. |
Fully implementing the morality of “When drinking water, remember its source”, the Party and State always pay deep attention to families with meritorious services, People's Armed Forces Heroes, and generals who have contributed to the revolution, demonstrating the gratitude and great responsibility of today's generation. Peace is not only a wish but also an aspiration, a way of life of the entire nation, preserved, protected and promoted by generations of Vietnamese people. Peace is built with a lot of blood and tears, therefore, the more we live in peace, the more we must cherish and value the value of independence, freedom, and show gratitude to our predecessors... To maintain that independence, freedom and peace, our Party and State always focus on building a strong armed force to meet the requirements of the task of protecting the Fatherland in all situations.
