Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra: No immediate merger of provinces and cities

Speaking to reporters, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra affirmed that the information and images circulating on social networks are incorrect. There is currently no immediate plan to merge provinces and cities.

In recent days, there have been rumors about many provinces and cities restructuring, merging, and changing their names.

Regarding this issue, on the afternoon of November 27, speaking with a reporter from Vietnam News Agency, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra affirmed that the information and images circulating on social networks are incorrect. There is currently no immediate plan to merge provinces and cities.

According to Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, the Ministry of Home Affairs and relevant agencies are implementing the restructuring of the apparatus towards streamlining, effectiveness and efficiency as directed by the Politburo and General Secretary To Lam.

This content has been affirmed by the 13th Central Executive Committee: "This is an especially important task, a revolution in streamlining the organization and apparatus of the political system, requiring a very high level of unity in perception and action throughout the Party and the entire political system."

“In the immediate future, the restructuring of the apparatus will be implemented at the central level. The restructuring of provincial administrative units will be carried out later and there is currently no plan to merge provinces and cities immediately,” the Minister of Home Affairs affirmed.

Informing that information about the plan to reorganize the apparatus in the political system is currently being researched, prepared and is being implemented in a confidential manner, Chief of Office and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs Vu Dang Minh stated that anyone who posts this plan online is violating regulations on protecting state secrets; anyone who violates will be handled according to the provisions of the law.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has discussed with the Ministry of Public Security and requested the cyber security agency to review and handle the posting of incorrect information, which affects social psychology./.
