Thai football falls into unprecedented danger

Thai clubs are in financial trouble.

Specifically, from receiving 1.05 billion baht (700 billion VND/season) in television copyright fees, now they are only offered a price of 50 million baht.

In the 2022-2023 season, Thai League 1 earned 300 million baht in television copyright, but this number is still not enough for the clubs to operate.

Therefore, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) and the Thai League Organizing Committee are negotiating to find a solution to save the situation.

On the TV station's side, they said that the number of viewers watching domestic tournaments in Thailand has decreased significantly in recent years, so they were forced to reduce television copyright fees.

However, the giants in Thai League 1 are still strong enough to cope with this crisis.

However, many teams in Thai League 2 and Thai League 3 (equivalent to Vietnam's First and Second Divisions) are not doing so well.

Not long ago, MH Nakhon Si Club in Thai League 2 asked the Organizing Committee not to participate in the tournament because the team had run out of operating funds.

Another team, Chiangrai United, is also owing its players 3 months' salary and is facing the risk of dissolution.

Besides, many clubs are in dire straits and if they do not receive timely support, they are at risk of having to stop operating.

“I am very worried about Thai League 2 and Thai League 3. What is really worrying now is that Thai League 3 will not have any support money.

Thai League 2 used to have many live matches, but the number of matches shown next season will be only 1/3.

The support money for clubs in Thai League 2 will also decrease. Thai League 3 does not have live television, so this season will be very difficult," said General Director of Chiangrai United Club, Mr. Mitti Tiyapairat.
