On July 29, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health issued a warning about the practice of impersonating medical staff to defraud voluntary blood donors in Ho Chi Minh City.
Specifically, according to press reports, in recent days, hundreds of blood donors in Ho Chi Minh City have received strange calls claiming to be employees of the Department of Health , the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital, the City's Humanitarian Blood Donation Center, and blood donation organizations.
The call content informed that the blood donation results of the people were “abnormal”. After that, the subjects asked to provide citizen identification photos, VNeID accounts, and Zalo friends to “guide registration for examination, testing or identity verification”.
The Department of Health determined that this is a new form of fraud, causing confusion in the voluntary blood donor community, seriously threatening people's rights, causing social insecurity and affecting the reputation of the health sector as well as the humanitarian blood donation movement in the city.

The Department of Health said that recently, the city's health sector has coordinated with relevant units to carry out many communication activities, warning people through the "Golden Blood Drop" application, the official website and fanpage, as well as sending SMS messages to the blood donor community. This is to advise people to be vigilant, not to provide personal information and not to follow the instructions of scammers.
At the same time, the health sector also coordinates with media agencies to communicate about the blood donation process to help people understand, prevent fraud, and contribute to mobilizing voluntary blood donation. In particular, there is a warning and recommendation to prevent fraud via text messages for voluntary blood donors.
Accordingly, medical facilities and blood donation units will only contact people through official methods. Messages sent to blood donors will display the brand name “BVTMHH” or “TTHIENMAUTP”.
The hospital absolutely does not ask people to provide personal information via the application, Zalo or any link. If in doubt, people should immediately call the hotline of the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital at 028.3955 7858 for verification.
The Department of Health recommends that people absolutely do not provide personal information to strange calls or messages. When detecting suspicious signs, people need to stay calm, not follow the instructions of strangers, and proactively report to the police or notify medical facilities for timely support and handling.
The city's health sector will closely coordinate with relevant units to continue monitoring the situation and updating developments; closely coordinate with functional agencies to protect the rights and confidentiality of blood donors.
