Beware of “virtual” retreats

Taking advantage of the psychology of many people looking for relaxing trips during the summer, a scam to register for a "summer retreat" is being warned by young people on online forums.

Accordingly, some people have sought to buy leaked user information online, including: full name, phone number, email address, residential information and registration for "summer retreats". After that, these people will continuously call your mobile phone, informing you that you have registered for the retreat and paid, just need to arrive at the meeting point and a shuttle will be waiting.

Receiving 3 phone calls informing him that he had registered and paid for the "summer retreat" made Nguyen Hoai Minh Phuong (23 years old, office worker, residing in Xuan Hoa ward, Ho Chi Minh City) very upset.

Minh Phuong said: “The first time I called, I thought they had mistaken the registrant’s information, but by the third time, it was clearly a trick. They said I had already registered and paid 5 million VND, while for nearly 2 months, my account had not had any unusual transactions. I work in banking so I know that very well. On the third call, they convinced me to try to go so as not to waste 5 million VND, and even said that if I invited another friend to join me, I would immediately receive a 2 million VND reward.”

It is worth mentioning that when Minh Phuong asked about the schedule and location, the caller only gave a general answer that they would visit many temples, beautiful landscapes... with no specific address at all. In addition, the pick-up time was also very strange, with only 2 time slots: 1:30 or 4:00 a.m.!

Even if I don't go, there will still be problems, said Ms. Ngo Thi Lan Thuong (28 years old, skin care technician, living in Rach Ong ward, Ho Chi Minh City): "After many times of persuading me to go, they told me that I had to log in to a link to cancel my registration, otherwise my money would be deducted later. I posted this link to an online fraud warning group to check, and they said that this link is aimed at stealing bank account data."

Faced with the pressures of life, many young people have a need to find peaceful, “healing” trips. Knowing this need, a new form of fraud has emerged, targeting mainly young people who are susceptible to long trips. Staying calm and vigilant is necessary to protect yourself from all kinds of scams today.
