Bridge under construction had to be stopped urgently because of bomb discovery

(NLDO) - While constructing a community bridge in Quang Binh , workers discovered a large bomb right under the bridge pier, forcing the project to be temporarily halted.

MAG's Mobile Bomb Disposal Team identified the bomb as MK81, weighing approximately 118 kg, with a lethal radius of over 1 km.

The Mobile Bomb Disposal Team of the NGO Mine Action Group (MAG) in Vietnam has just safely disposed of a bomb, discovered right under the pier of the Chuon bridge (Kim Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh).

Previously, on March 17, during the construction and repair of the people's bridge connecting Chuon village with Con Cung village in Kim Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, a large bomb was discovered right under the bridge pier, forcing the entire project to be urgently halted.

Upon receiving a request from the Quang Binh Provincial Military Command, the MAG Mobile Bomb Disposal Team quickly arrived at the scene. Upon inspection, experts determined that this was an MK81 bomb, weighing approximately 118 kg, with a lethal radius of over 1 km.

Immediately afterwards, the bomb was safely handled and transported to the warehouse to await destruction according to regulations.

Mr. Nguyen Van Sang, Head of Chuon village, said that in the past, local people often discovered many bombs and bullets during the process of planting acacia trees. This area used to be the base of Truong Son troops and volunteer youth, and was also a transit point for food and ammunition from the North to the battlefield in the South, so it was heavily bombed.

This is not the first time that MAG’s Mobile Bomb Disposal Team has cleared mines in Chuon village. In previous years, the team has carried out five emergency missions here. Notably, in July 2021, the team cleared a MK82 bomb weighing about 230 kg discovered in Chuon village.
