Tho Chau is considered an important fishing logistics base in the southwestern sea. Offshore fishing vessels inside and outside the province regularly operate in large numbers in this sea area. Recently, illegal transportation and storage of gasoline, oil, and IUU fishing still occur.
Therefore, Tho Chau Border Guard Station proactively manages vehicle operations and directs subordinate units to strengthen inspection and control of people, procedures, and documents related to fishing and transporting goods.
Patrol boats and teams do not allow unqualified vessels (fishing boats 15m or longer) to leave port. The unit combines patrolling and actual control with vehicle control via ship and boat management software, promptly detecting signs of violations.
Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Tho Chau Special Zone, Do Van Dung, commented: "We acknowledge the efforts of Tho Chau Border Guard Station in particular and other forces in general in performing their duties well for the peace of the sea and islands, and for the order of the area. You comrades not only contribute to maintaining security and order but also carry out well the mass mobilization work, keep a close eye on the area, and create favorable conditions for local people to do business and for boats and ships to enter and exit the island."
Tho Chau Border Guard Station coordinates with Coast Guard Region 4 to propagate against IUU fishing.
Currently, in the area managed by the unit, there are 27 households raising fish in cages on more than 5 hectares of sea surface. The unit's Command Board has established 8 solidarity groups for farming, 6 safe fishing groups and 2 security and order groups in the area. The unit has assigned cadres to stay close to the people, pay attention to the activities of the people in the area, especially focusing on cage fish farming.
Regular visits and propaganda have helped border guards get closer to the people and fishermen; people feel more secure in fishing and farming. Up to now, 100% of farming and fishing households understand the law, strictly comply with central and local regulations, especially against IUU fishing...
“In the first 6 months of 2025, the patrol unit detected, arrested, and handled 1 vehicle for possessing 4 tracking devices of other fishing vessels. Detected and handled 1 case, 2 vehicles for not maintaining the transmission of information from the tracking device on the fishing vessel.
At the same time, in coordination with the An Thoi Port Border Guard Station, we patrolled, detected, arrested, and handled 4 cases, 16 subjects illegally transporting more than 133,000 liters of DO oil; independently arrested 2 cases, seized more than 50,000 liters of DO oil," said Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Tu - Head of Tho Chau Border Guard Station.
In order to ensure security and order in the area, from the beginning of 2025 until now, the unit has organized many meetings with people, attracting thousands of participants, including propagating legal documents, sovereignty , fishing grounds, wharves, etc.
Coordinated 20 patrols at sea, hundreds of night patrols with police and military forces; regularly reminded motel and restaurant owners to strictly comply with local regulations, not to arrange business after the prescribed hours. In addition, launched movements: "Tho Chau Special Zone without plastic waste", "Tho Chau Youth join hands to protect the sea and islands", "Tho Chau Border Guard Station Youth Union exchanges plastic waste for gifts" ...
Today, Tho Chau's national defense and security are firmly maintained, which will be the premise and driving force to attract investment. Border guards at the forefront of the storm also silently join hands day and night, contributing with the entire political system to bring Tho Chau far.
