National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man meets with Director General of the UN Office in Geneva

According to VNA special correspondent, on the afternoon of July 29 local time, at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, on the occasion of attending the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Director General of the United Nations Office in Geneva Tatiana Valovaya.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated the executive role of Director General Tatiana Valovaya and the important contributions of the UN Office to maintaining international peace and security, promoting and ensuring human rights, eliminating poverty and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals globally.

Emphasizing the foreign policy of multilateralization, diversification, proactive and active contribution to peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development, the National Assembly Chairman affirmed that Vietnam always strongly supports multilateralism and will continue to participate and contribute more actively to the activities of the United Nations. The National Assembly Chairman said that Vietnam is running for re-election as a member of the Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term. If elected, Vietnam will have many activities and initiatives to promote the role of this agency in the current volatile and challenging international context.

On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairwoman thanked Director General Tatiana Valovaya and UN agencies for their active cooperation and support in the cause of national construction and development; shared Vietnam's achievements in gender equality, specifically women's participation in the National Assembly and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Welcoming the recent efforts to reform the UN system, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that Vietnam will continue to cooperate closely and make many contributions to improving the operational efficiency and adaptability of the largest international organization on the planet; and requested Director General Tatiana Valovaya to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese officials and citizens to work at UN agencies.

Director-General Tatiana Valovaya thanked Vietnam for its enthusiastic support of the UN's joint activities in Geneva, including taking the lead in responding to the initiative to exhibit 17 outstanding women in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Director-General Tatiana Valovaya highly appreciated the role and active activities of the Ambassador, Head of Mission and the Vietnamese Delegation in Geneva at UN organizations, as well as in joint work such as participating in the Advisory Council for the restoration of historical buildings at the UN Headquarters.

The two sides agreed to continue promoting Vietnam-UN cooperation in general and in activities in Geneva in particular.
