RMIT University team had a good start in the qualifying round of Ho Chi Minh City, the 3rd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2025 THACO Cup. In the opening match against Gia Dinh University team, RMIT University team took the lead twice (leading 1-0 and 2-1). In turn, Nguyen Do Minh Hieu and Sengduangmisay Salavut (Laos) scored for RMIT University team. The failure to maintain concentration in the extra minutes caused the "rich team" to regretfully drop 3 points. "It is really regrettable that the team could not win 3 points in the opening match. The two situations in which we conceded goals were similar, when there was only 1 minute left in extra time before the equalizer. We will improve this. However, the players of the RMIT University team played with 200% of their strength, true to my expectations," said head coach Vo Trung Kien.

According to coach Trung Kien, the RMIT team needs to improve their physical strength. The two goals conceded in extra time came from the players being tired and having cramps, so they could not maintain their concentration and keep up with the opponent. If they can overcome their physical limitations, the RMIT team promises to be more difficult to deal with.

Standing out in the RMIT University squad is Laotian "foreign player" Sengduangmisay Salavut, who scored in his first match. Regarding the Laotian player, Coach Trung Kien commented: "The Laotian student player is one of the best individuals of the RMIT University team. He is a key factor in our playing style, alongside the captain. These two players are the core that I trust, can help the RMIT University team control the match as well as solve the problem of scoring goals".

"This is the first time I have led the RMIT University team to participate in the 11-a-side football tournament. So when the players raised the issue, I only dared to say that we will participate in the tournament with the mindset of being the weakest team in the group. This will create the most comfortable mentality for the players. But when entering the match, we all play with 200% of our strength. If we perform well, we will have good results.

RMIT University has two more matches in Group 3, against Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry (on January 4) and Van Lang University (on January 9), both of which are very strong. We still maintain the same spirit, still playing with 200% of our strength. In football, nothing can be predicted, who knows, there might be surprises," added coach Trung Kien.
