On February 5, specialist doctor Nguyen Minh Tien, City Children's Hospital, said that through the medical history, after the fall, N. was unconscious and was taken by his family to Binh Tan Hospital for emergency intubation, intravenous fluids, and transferred to City Children's Hospital. Here, the child was found to be in a coma, with a weak pulse, cool extremities, pale skin, and was given respiratory support, anti-shock with intravenous fluids, vasopressors, blood transfusions, electrolyte adjustment, and acid-base balance.
Through diagnostic imaging tests such as X-ray, CT scan, and ultrasound, the doctors concluded that the child had hemorrhagic shock, multiple injuries due to a 12-hour fall, cerebral hemorrhage in the right temporal region, small amounts of subarachnoid and subdural hemorrhage in the occipital region on both sides, brain contusion, cerebral edema, complex pelvic fracture, right tibia fracture, pulmonary contusion...
The child recovered after 2 months of intensive treatment.
The hospital conducted consultations with the departments of Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, and Anesthesia and Resuscitation. Doctors performed surgery to place a left pleural drain, fix the pelvis, fuse the right tibia, treat traumatic brain injury, closed abdominal trauma, and fix the cervical spine. The child was treated with anti-cerebral edema, anti-convulsants, blood transfusions, fresh frozen plasma, platelets, broad-spectrum antibiotics, and pain relievers.
After nearly 2 months of treatment, the child's condition gradually improved, consciousness recovered, he could communicate, breathe well on his own, and was taken off the ventilator.
Doctor Tien said this is a rare case of a child falling from a height of over 10 meters (from the 5th floor) and being saved.
