Proposal to add sugarcane to the list of goods traded through secondary border gates

DNVN - According to the feedback of businesses and business households in Tay Ninh province who are growing sugarcane in border provinces, the distance to transport sugarcane from the sugarcane field to the main border gate is very far, resulting in very high transportation costs.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is synthesizing and evaluating the implementation results of Circular 01/2018/TT-BCT detailing goods bought, sold and exchanged through secondary border gates and border openings of traders (Circular 01) and Circular 02/2018/TT-BCT detailing the list of goods bought, sold and exchanged by border residents (Circular 02).

Evaluating the implementation results of Circular 01 and Circular 02, the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) based on business opinions said that sugarcane is an area of economic cooperation between Tay Ninh province and bordering provinces of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

According to the business, businesses, households, families and individuals in Tay Ninh province are growing sugarcane in border provinces with a total area of 7,000 hectares, with an expected output of 350,000 tons in the 2024-2025 crop. After harvest, these traders need to bring sugarcane back to Tay Ninh to continue the deep processing process through border gates.

However, transportation through the border gate is difficult because the distance to transport sugarcane from the sugarcane field to the main border gate is very far, resulting in very high transportation costs.

Meanwhile, the item "sugarcane" is not yet on the list of goods allowed to be bought, sold, or exchanged through secondary border gates and border openings as prescribed in Circular 01. Therefore, transportation through secondary border gates (with sufficient management forces) is difficult.

From this feedback, VCCI proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade review and evaluate the addition of sugarcane to the list of goods bought, sold and exchanged by traders in Circular 01.
