Tourism grows strongly with 12.5 million domestic visitors during Tet At Ty

On February 3, information from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) showed that during the Lunar New Year 2025, the tourism industry will grow strongly with about 12.5 million domestic visitors, an increase of 19% over the same period in 2024.

During the 9 days of Lunar New Year, the number of visitors increased in many localities, led by Ho Chi Minh City with an estimated 2.1 million arrivals (up 16.7%); total revenue from tourists is estimated at about 7,690 billion VND, up 17.4% over the same period in 2024. Next is Hanoi with about 1 million arrivals (up 6%) total revenue from tourists is estimated at 3,530 billion VND, up 7.85% over the same period in 2024; Quang Ninh welcomed 969,000 arrivals; Ba Ria - Vung Tau welcomed 869,433 arrivals; Khanh Hoa welcomed 825,195 arrivals...

In late January and early February 2025, the number of international visitors to Vietnam also increased significantly thanks to favorable visa policies and effective promotion strategies of localities. Destinations such as Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Kien Giang, and Hue City recorded a strong increase in the number of international visitors.

To meet the travel needs of tourists and people during Tet, airlines have added more flights and increased night flights. It is estimated that domestic airlines have provided more than 6.9 million seats on international and domestic routes, an average of 227,000 seats per day, an increase of 4% compared to Tet 2024.

Besides road and air tourism, cruise tourism has also seen remarkable growth. Da Nang welcomed about 1,800 international visitors on the Crystal Symphony and Silver Dawn ships, while Quang Ninh welcomed four large cruise ships with 6,000 passengers and 4,000 crew members.

It is worth mentioning that this year's Tet tourism market has witnessed many train tour products on the routes Hanoi - Lao Cai, Quang Binh or Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang, Hue, Da Nang... Vietnam Railways has launched the "Spring Train" bringing many interesting experiences: welcoming New Year's Eve on the train with a countdown program, participating in folk games, enjoying typical Tet dishes... The Railways has proactively increased many more trains on the North - South route as well as local trains to serve travel needs during the 2025 Lunar New Year.

Tourist accommodation establishments nationwide have proactively renovated and prepared facilities and human resources to serve tourists during Tet. The average room occupancy rate at some destinations is quite high, of which Sa Pa (Lao Cai) is estimated at 90 - 95%; Kien Giang (73.4%); Ho Chi Minh City (65%); Hue City (63%); Phu Yen (62%), Da Nang (50%)... In general, room rates have increased slightly by 5 - 10%, there has been no shortage of rooms, price gouging, or selling at prices other than listed prices.

During Tet, many travel companies (Hanoitourist, Saigontourist, Vietravel, Benthanhtourist...) have launched many attractive tour programs, both domestic and international, with diverse promotional forms. International tours to Northeast Asia (China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea...), Southeast Asia (Thailand, Singapore...) and Europe, the United States continue to attract Vietnamese tourists.
