Awarded the "seat" of Foreign Minister, the veteran diplomat outlined priorities in international relations, naming Russia and China.

On August 18, veteran diplomat nominated by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian for the position of Foreign Minister, Mr. Abbas Araghchi outlined the foreign policy priorities of the new administration.

Speaking before the Iranian Parliament, Mr. Araghchi presented his views on the country's foreign policy, IRNA news agency reported.

According to him, Russia, along with China and other countries that have supported Iran in overcoming sanctions, as well as emerging powers in Africa, Latin America and East Asia, will play a central role in the Islamic republic's foreign policy.

Mr. Araghchi pledged to strengthen relations with neighboring countries and connect Iran's infrastructure with these countries.

For Europe, he said, improving relations would depend on the continent correcting its “incorrect and hostile” stance toward Iran.

Regarding relations with the US, the diplomat emphasized the strategy of restraining hostile behavior, while working to ease sanctions.

The candidate for Secretary of State affirmed his unwavering support for the just cause of the Palestinian people and resistance movements in the region, including Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Mr. Araghchi, 61, who previously served as Iran's deputy foreign minister and chief nuclear negotiator, is preparing to lead Iran's diplomatic efforts in President Pezeshkian's administration.

According to observers, Mr. Araghchi is an experienced diplomat with a pragmatic style.
