U23 Asian Cup has big changes, Southeast Asian team is at risk of having ticket revoked

According to a recent announcement, four teams including U23 Kuwait, U23 China, U23 Tajikistan and U23 Malaysia have secured tickets to the 2024 AFC U23 Championship as the second-placed teams with the best results after the qualifying round.

U23 Malaysia is still uncertain about having a ticket to the 2024 AFC U23 Championship.

But in the latest developments, U23 Iran is filing a complaint with the tournament's Organizing Committee because of mistakes in refereeing.

Specifically, in the match between U23 Iran and U23 Uzbekistan, player Abdukodir Khusanov (U23 Uzbekistan) received 2 yellow cards in the 40th and 90th minutes.

However, instead of expelling Abdukodir Khusanov, the referee team continued to let this player play until the end of the match.

In the end, U23 Iran lost 0-1 and did not qualify. Iran said that the referee's decision affected the match result.

With only 3 points after the qualifying round, U23 Iran is at a disadvantage compared to the 3 second-placed teams in the other groups: U23 Kuwait, U23 China and U23 Tajikistan (with 4 points).

Meanwhile, they have the same score and goal difference as U23 Malaysia but are still eliminated when considering the fair-play index.

Many opinions say that the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) should reorganize the match between U23 Iran and U23 Uzbekistan.

If this becomes a reality, it is very likely that U23 Malaysia will be eliminated.

But up to now, AFC has not made any move related to the above incident.

Also on the morning of September 13, AFC divided the seed groups at the 2024 AFC U23 Championship.

Notably, U23 Vietnam is in group 2 with Australia, South Korea and Iraq.
