Hanoi speeds up progress, ready to start metro lines in 2025

Hanoi City requested relevant units to urgently complete procedures and be ready to start construction of metro lines 2 and 5 as planned in October and December 2025.

Urgently deploy investment projects to build urban railway lines starting in 2025

On July 17, the Office of the Hanoi People's Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 10999/VP-DT notifying the direction of Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan on urgently organizing and implementing the contents and tasks of urban railway construction investment projects starting in 2025.

Urban railway line No. 2 (Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao section) is expected to start construction in October 2025.

Accordingly, the Hanoi People's Committee received Report No. 39/BC-DSDT-KHTH dated July 11, 2025 of the Urban Railway Management Board on reviewing the progress of implementing urban railway projects starting in 2025.

Regarding this, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan requested the City's Departments, branches, People's Committees of communes, wards and related units to urgently and seriously implement the direction of Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh in Notice No. 414/TB-VP dated July 8, 2025 of the Office of Hanoi People's Committee, ensuring the progress of the construction of urban railway investment projects starting in 2025: Line No. 2, Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao on October 10, 2025 and Line No. 5, Van Cao - Hoa Lac on December 19, 2025.

At the same time, promptly advise, propose and report to the Hanoi City People's Committee to remove difficulties and problems (if any).

Request the Urban Railway Management Board to focus, preside, and closely coordinate with the City's Departments, branches, People's Committees of communes, wards, and related units, urgently implement the direction of the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee in Notice No. 414/TB-VP dated July 8, 2025 of the Office of the Hanoi People's Committee, deploy investment projects to build urban railway lines starting in 2025 to ensure the required progress.

Consulting on route plan and location for construction of urban railway line No. 5

On the afternoon of July 17, the Hanoi Urban Railway Project Management Board (Management Board) coordinated with the People's Committee of Quoc Oai commune to collect public opinions on the route plan, location, and construction according to the Hanoi Urban Railway Construction Investment Project, Line No. 5 (Van Cao - Ngoc Khanh - Lang - Hoa Lac).

According to the Management Board, urban railway line No. 5 is one of 12 urban railway lines of Hanoi City. The starting point of the line is at the intersection of Van Cao - Hoang Hoa Tham, Ngoc Khanh; the end point is in Yen Bai commune (Hanoi).

The project has a total length of about 41.9 km, including 21 stations and 2 depots. Of which, the section passing through Quoc Oai commune has a total length of 2.84 km with 2 stations. The land area used is about 7.03 ha (including traffic and irrigation land).

It is expected that urban railway line No. 5 will be completed and operational in 2030.

The leader of Quoc Oai commune said that after the urban railway line No. 5 is put into operation, it will help reduce traffic pressure on existing roads, especially Thang Long Avenue; contributing to promoting socio -economic development and attracting investment for the locality.
