Earlier, it was reported that Seoul was considering sending a team of officials, possibly including intelligence and military experts, to Ukraine to analyze the tactics of the North Korean military in the context of supporting Russia.

On October 29, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol also announced that his country is about to send a delegation to Ukraine.

In response to these moves, the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) in South Korea warned that it would pursue impeachment of the Defense Minister if the administration of President Yoon Suk Yeol decided to send "armed forces" to Ukraine without the approval of the National Assembly .

Yonhap news agency quoted DP lawmaker Kim Byung-joo as emphasizing that sending any military personnel abroad requires the approval of the National Assembly under Article 60 of the Korean Constitution.

Mr. Kim also criticized the South Korean government for possibly "labeling" this force as a monitoring team to avoid the need for parliamentary approval, warning that this was a dangerous move that could lead to a "proxy" conflict between South Korea and North Korea.

DP lawmaker Lee Un-ju also stressed that intervening in another country's war without the consent of its people will not be tolerated.

The moves came as an unnamed official told reporters that Seoul and its allies estimate that at least 11,000 North Korean troops have been deployed to Russia, with more than 3,000 of them currently deployed near the front line in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Pentagon press secretary Brigadier General Pat Ryder confirmed that a "small number" of North Korean troops were present in the Kursk frontline area in western Russia while "several thousand more are either present or arriving soon".

He also noted that the remaining North Korean troops deployed to Russia are currently training in the East, with the US saying they "will move in the direction of Kursk at some point."
