Hau Giang: First time organizing the "Pulling Con to Catch Fish in Flood Season" contest

On October 30, the People's Committee of Phung Hiep district, Hau Giang province, organized the first "Pulling a Con to Catch Fish in the Flood Season" contest in 2023. The contest carries the message of propaganda and education for people that fishing must be associated with the conservation of aquatic resources in the fields.

A lot of local people came to watch the contest.

The competition was attended by 16 teams from 15 communes and towns in the district. Within 120 minutes on a nearly 2-hectare water field, the team that caught the most fish would win.

The teams tried their best to catch fish in the flooded fields.

The contestants are mostly farmers who work by pushing cones to catch fish during the flood season. The tools used to catch fish are familiar cones of local people.

Phung Hiep district is aiming to transform the Con pulling model into experiential tourism .

Mr. Tran Khong Dan, Vice Chairman of Phung Hiep District People's Committee, said that the contest contributes to preserving the tradition of fishing in the locality, along with raising people's awareness that fishing must be associated with protecting aquatic resources. In the coming years, the district will develop the model into a form of experiential tourism for visitors to explore when the flood season comes.
