Revealing images of the 2025 Volvo XC90, there will still be a hybrid version

The slowing growth of the electric vehicle market has prompted many automakers to reconsider their decision to stop making internal combustion engine vehicles. Volvo, for example, will launch a new version of its XC90 with a hybrid powertrain, providing an alternative to the similarly sized all-electric EX90, catering to a diverse market.

The Swedish brand said the 2025 XC90, with some upgrades, will be launched on September 4. This is a facelift version, not a completely new design.

Volvo will likely adopt a similar strategy with its other internal combustion engine models, until it converts its entire product portfolio to pure electric vehicles by 2030.

The second-generation Volvo XC90 debuted in 2014 and received a minor facelift in 2019. The upcoming 2025 version is expected to feature a completely redesigned exterior and upgraded interior, incorporating the styling of its "brother" EX90.

The full-size SUV is likely to get some hardware upgrades, a greater focus on electrification, and some safety tech upgrades.

The official teaser image has revealed a corner of the new XC90's hood, which looks more muscular than the EX90. The front lights are slightly different, but still have the LED design with the Thor's hammer shape that has become a Volvo signature.

It's unclear whether the new XC90 will be available as a mild hybrid or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).

Currently in Vietnam, the Volvo XC90 model is being imported and officially distributed with the Recharge hybrid electric version, priced at 4.65 billion VND.
