Ngan Truoi Lake "cuts floods" of nearly 237 million m3 of water for the downstream area

With the frequency of rain like the past few days, if the Ngan Truoi lake project did not play the role of "cutting the flood" of nearly 237 million m3 of water, the communes in the lower Vu Quang area ( Ha Tinh ) would be deeply flooded over a large area.

Ngan Truoi Lake

Ngan Truoi Lake is at an elevation of 43.56/52m, equivalent to a capacity of 462/775 million m3 .

According to the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Irrigation 4 ( Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development ), as of the end of October 30, the water level of Ngan Truoi Lake (Vu Quang) - the largest reservoir in Ha Tinh is at an elevation of 43.56/52m, equivalent to a capacity of 462/775 million m3 .

Mr. Van Thang - Deputy Head of the Investment and Construction Management Board of Irrigation 4 said that the water level of Ngan Truoi Lake is currently at 59.6% of its capacity and can hold an additional 313 million m3 of water. Therefore, if there is heavy rain in the coming days, there is still no problem to worry about.

“Since the beginning of October, the province has been experiencing continuous heavy rains, and the lake has been supplemented with 237 million m3 of water. Previously, the lake water level was very low (on September 24, 2023, it reached 225 million m3 , the lowest water level of the year). In the coming days, the unit will closely monitor weather developments to have a suitable operating plan,” Mr. Van Thang informed.

Ngan Truoi Lake

Ngan Truoi Lake plays an important role in flood regulation for downstream areas.

According to Mr. Thang, with the dam crest design elevation reaching 57.8m and the reservoir capacity of 775 million m3 , Ngan Truoi Lake has the task of storing water and regulating floods for the downstream area. With the frequency of rain like the past few days, if Ngan Truoi Lake did not play the role of "cutting the flood" of nearly 237 million m3 of water, the communes in the downstream area of Vu Quang would be deeply flooded.

Although Ngan Truoi Lake has "cut" nearly 237 million m3 of water, due to prolonged heavy rain, most low-lying areas in Vu Quang district are still flooded, most seriously in Duc Linh, Duc Bong...
