Hanoi Students must achieve 10 points at the end of the year in 14/17 primary school subjects, and the remaining 9 points to be eligible to take the entrance exam to grade 6 at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

According to the announcement signed on May 18, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted will enroll 200 sixth graders this year. The two preliminary and entrance exam rounds will remain the same as previous years. The application period is from now until 5:00 p.m. on May 27.

The preliminary round takes place from June 2 to 5 by reviewing the school records. The school considers the total final exam scores of Math, Vietnamese (grades 1-5); Science , History and Geography (grades 4, 5), English (grades 3-5). The maximum score is 170. Students who score 167 points or more are eligible to take the entrance exam. That means they need to score 10 points in at least 14 subjects, and 9 points in the remaining three subjects to be able to participate in the next round.

The entrance exam takes place on June 23. In the morning, students take Vietnamese and English exams, and in the afternoon, they take Math exams. Each subject lasts 45 minutes, combining multiple choice and essay questions. The admission score is the total score of the three exams, excluding priority points, with a maximum of 30. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training is responsible for creating the exam questions, organizing the invigilation and grading the exams.

The results were announced on July 5. Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted will consider admission from top to bottom until the quota is full. If the scores are equal, the candidate with the higher preliminary score will be given priority. Those who are admitted will enroll in the three days of July 7-9.

Last year the standard score to enter the school was 17 points.

According to the Department of Education and Training, secondary schools will recruit students based on their districts, while high-quality schools will recruit students from all over the city. If the number of students registering exceeds the quota, high-quality schools will be considered for admission or combined with an entrance exam, to be completed before July 12.

Currently, in addition to the Hanoi - Amsterdam specialized secondary school system, the capital has three other high-quality schools: Cau Giay, Thanh Xuan, and Nam Tu Liem secondary schools.
