More than 2 billion 5G smartphones have been sold worldwide

The availability of 5G smartphones has increased as the price gap between 5G and 4G chips has narrowed. In addition, major chipmakers such as Qualcomm and MediaTek have helped OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) launch more affordable 5G smartphones by creating low-end 5G chips. All this has allowed manufacturers, especially from China, to offer customers a wider range of 5G smartphones, especially in the mid-range and high-end price segments.

The report notes that developed markets are approaching 5G smartphone saturation, with 5G smartphones accounting for over 80% of total smartphone sales by 2023. In developing countries, where carriers are expanding 5G coverage, consumer awareness of the advanced technology and demand for 5G are growing. Emerging markets such as India and Southeast Asia are expected to drive 5G smartphone shipments by 1 billion units.
