Houthis admit first missile attack deep into central Israel

"A ballistic missile successfully reached its target at an Israeli military position in the Jaffa area," Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said.

Spokesperson Saree confirmed that Israel's defense system failed to intercept the missile.

The Houthi-run Saba news agency also reported that Israel's defense system failed to shoot down the Yemeni missile, causing the fire. "A missile from Yemen hit an Israeli target after 20 missiles failed to intercept it," Nasruddin Amer, a Houthi media official, posted on X network.

On the morning of September 15, a long-range ballistic missile launched from Yemen fell near Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport, causing fires and forcing residents to flee to shelters during rush hour.

According to the Israeli military, their forces launched interceptor missiles but failed. Air raid sirens were heard across Tel Aviv and central Israel.

There were no reports of injuries or damage, and the airport authority said normal operations resumed shortly afterwards. Images of debris falling onto an escalator at a train station in the central town of Modiin were released.

"Following a siren sounding a short time ago in central Israel, a surface-to-surface missile was detected flying towards the area from the east and falling in an open area. No casualties were reported," the Israeli military said.

In a post on X, Magen David Adom, Israel’s national rescue service, said nine people suffered minor injuries as they ran to shelters. Residents also heard loud explosions in the area, which the military said were the sounds of Israeli interceptor missiles. However, the Home Front Command did not change its defense instructions to civilians.

This is the first time a missile from Yemen has reached central Israel.
