Middle East airspace 'empty', airlines worry more about rising oil prices

According to Reuters news agency on June 23, commercial airlines around the world are considering suspending flights to the Middle East region, after the US bombed Iran.

On June 22, Singapore Airlines, one of the most prestigious airlines in Asia - canceled flights from Singapore to Dubai after a security review and called the situation "volatile".

The Middle East route has become more important for flights between Europe and Asia, since Russian and Ukrainian airspace was closed due to fighting.

However, data from flight tracking site FlightRadar24 shows completely clear skies over Iran, Iraq, Syria and Israel.

Air France KLM announced on June 22 that it had canceled flights to and from Dubai and Riyadh on June 22 and 23.

British Airways also canceled flights to and from Dubai and Doha on June 22. The airline said it was continuing to review the situation.

Missile and drone attacks in many war hotspots are posing a major risk to aviation operations.

Aviation risk watchdog Safe Airspace has warned that US strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities could increase the threat to US airlines in the region.

Before the US launched airstrikes on Iran, American Airlines suspended flights to Qatar, while United Airlines suspended flights to Dubai.

Airlines are also concerned about the possibility of a spike in oil prices, which would increase the cost of jet fuel.

Meanwhile, Israel is increasing flights to assist stranded passengers at home and abroad.

The Israeli airport authority announced that the number of rescue flights to the country will be expanded on June 23 with 24 flights per day, each flight is only allowed to carry a maximum of 50 passengers.

Earlier, Israel's El Al airline said it had received applications to leave the country from about 25,000 people in just one day.
