Enriching ASEAN Dialogue Partnership

Baoquocte.vn. At the invitation of the UK Department for Foreign Affairs and Development, ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn led a delegation from the ASEAN Secretariat to visit and work in the UK from November 1-3.

During the visit, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn is expected to meet with key senior figures from the UK government and private sector to enhance cooperation in all priority areas such as political- security, economic and socio-cultural between ASEAN and the UK.

To promote ASEAN diplomacy and vision, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn will visit the University of Oxford and deliver a special lecture on “The Future of ASEAN: Challenges and Opportunities beyond 2025”.

In early October 2023, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn received UK Minister of State for the Indo-Pacific, Ms. Anne-Marie Trevelyan, at the ASEAN Secretariat headquarters.

The two sides exchanged views on measures to strengthen the ASEAN-UK Dialogue Partnership and discussed preparations for the upcoming working visit of the Head of the ASEAN Secretariat to the UK in November.

Before arriving in the UK, Dr Kao Kim Hourn paid a long visit to Japan (October 24-29), meeting with key Japanese cabinet members including Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko.

The ASEAN Secretary-General also met with Japanese Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Saito Tetsuo, proposing that the two sides strengthen cooperation in responsible destination development, joint marketing and promotion, and human resource development.

During his visit to the land of the rising sun, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn attended the 5th ASEAN-Japan Smart Cities Network Summit and the Special Dialogue of ASEAN-Japan Tourism Ministers.

The visit comes at a crucial time as ASEAN and Japan celebrate 50 years of dialogue relations this year. Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa visited a series of ASEAN countries including Brunei, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand from October 8-13.
