He expressed hope that "the United States can continue to firmly support Taiwan and strengthen bilateral cooperation and relations." He also hoped that the two US congressmen and "Taiwan's friends in the US Congress " could continue to support Taiwan in strengthening its defense capabilities.

Congressmen Diaz-Balart and Bera are leaders of a group of US House members focused on improving US-Taiwan relations.

Congressman Diaz-Balart told Mr. Lai that his main message was that US support for Taiwan was steadfast and “100% bipartisan.”

China has also repeatedly warned the US to stop supporting Taiwan and this issue has often become a thorn in Sino-US relations, according to Reuters.
