Tet meal

HeritageHeritage31/01/2025

Basically, the Tet meal trays of the past and present are not different, including green sticky rice cake, fatty meat, pickled onions, fried spring rolls, chicken, bamboo shoot soup, pork roll, and sticky rice with gac fruit. These are traditional dishes that are a must for Vietnamese people, creating a colorful and prosperous feast for the new year.

The tradition of the whole family is to sit together to wrap banh chung and stay up all night to boil the cakes. To this day, this custom is still preserved in many Vietnamese families in all three regions.

Working hard all year, eating frugally to have a sumptuous meal during Tet, that is the feeling of many Vietnamese people who have lived through the period of poverty.

Nowadays, when life is more developed and full, traditional dishes are still an indispensable part of the New Year's Eve or New Year's Day meal. However, after eating two to three traditional meals with greasy dishes, many people start to look for lighter dishes such as vermicelli with snails, vermicelli with crab soup or pho to avoid feeling full.
