America Marilyn Monroe AI version has the ability to express emotions and chat with humans with a voice like the star.

According to the Hollywood Reporter on March 8, a virtual Marilyn Monroe appeared on the screen at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas. She wore a black turtleneck and had her iconic platinum pixie hair. The product is part of the Digital Marilyn project, jointly produced by the "virtual person" production company Soul Machine and Authentic Brands Group - the image management unit of many late artists.

Dana Carpenter, executive vice president of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group, said Soul Machines is a company with the technology to bring artists back in the age of AI.

"Marilyn Monroe cannot be replaced or copied, but the project will open up opportunities for generations of fans to interact with the late artist in a completely new way, while promoting deep connections, promoting her spiritual values and lasting imprint," the representative added.

According to the makers, the virtual star can "interact with fans in real time using advanced natural language processing technology, combining deep learning techniques and GPT 3.5 models". This means she will talk in a pre-programmed voice, narrate stories, express vivid nuances and greet like the real Marilyn.

In addition, Marilyn AI is also said to be able to read human emotions through the company's proprietary microphone and camera technology. She can analyze user preferences to adjust her responses accordingly, promoting personalization. According to the manufacturer, the average length of a conversation with the virtual artist is 20 minutes.

Greg Cross, CEO of Soul Machines, said the project introduced bionic AI technology to the masses, whereby virtual characters would recreate the artist's unique personality thanks to engaging dialogue and emotional intelligence. Greg said the new invention was more than nostalgia, it was a "glimpse" into the future of virtual interaction.

In addition to Marilyn Monroe, Soul Machines has created virtual versions of celebrities such as Korean-American singer Mark Tuan, wrestler Francis Ngannou, and golf legend Jack Nicklaus. Users can message and chat with the characters through the company's platform.

Digital Marilyn is still in development, the company has not announced a release date. According to Variety , this is the latest project to realize the idea of "reviving" the late artist using AI technology. In 2023, Warner Music Group cooperated with Seriously Happy (France) to produce an animated biopic project about the singer of La Vie en Rose Edith Piaf using AI technology. In the same year, the Calm application also used artificial intelligence to imitate the voice of veteran actor Jimmy Stewart for its nighttime story reading feature.
