On June 20, Meta Technology Group (USA) and EssilorLuxottica (France-Italy) eyewear manufacturer launched a new line of Oakley smart glasses, integrating the company's Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant.

The Oakley Meta HSTN, as these glasses are called, is the latest product to come out of a multi-year partnership between Meta and EssilorLuxottica.

The HSTN smart glasses are aimed at athletes and start at $399 per pair. This is also the first time Meta and Luxottica have expanded their smart glasses line beyond the Ray-Ban brand.

Meta and EssilorLuxottica unveiled their first smart glasses in 2021, and they've had a surprising success with the second generation of the product, which will launch in 2023.

Meta is planning to release versions of its smart glasses under the Oakley and Prada brands. It is unclear when Meta’s Prada deal and subsequent product line will be announced.

Meta says the company's latest smart glasses feature Oakley's PRIZM lens technology, which is designed to help athletes see better "in changing lighting and weather conditions."

The Oakley Meta HSTN has longer battery life and an improved camera over the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta, starting at $299 each.

Like the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, the HSTN glasses use the Meta AI digital assistant and a corresponding smartphone app so users can look up the weather or request video recordings of their daily activities.

Some of the different frame and lens color combinations of the Oakley Meta HSTN include a gray variant with red lenses and a black model with black lenses.

According to Meta and EssilorLuxottica, the product is also water resistant.

The limited edition HSTN glasses with yellow lenses and accents will cost $499 each and will be available for pre-order on July 11. Meta will sell the standard Oakley Meta HSTN model later this summer.

Meanwhile, other tech companies like Alphabet and Snap are also developing smart glasses. In May 2025, Alphabet announced a $150 million partnership with eyewear company Warby Parker to develop smart glasses based on Google's Gemini AI assistant, while Snap recently said it would launch its sixth-generation augmented reality smart glasses in 2026./.
