Expand coconut growing area to about 132,000 hectares by 2030

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, it is estimated that by the end of 2025, the whole province will have 119,270 hectares of coconut (equivalent to about 22 million coconut trees), leading the region and accounting for nearly 50% of the country's coconut area; an increase of 11,335 hectares compared to 2020 (the average annual area growth rate is about 2%).

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, it is estimated that by the end of 2025, the whole province will have 119,270 hectares of coconut (equivalent to about 22 million coconut trees), leading the region and accounting for nearly 50% of the country's coconut area; an increase of 11,335 hectares compared to 2020 (an average annual growth rate of about 2%). The coconut area bearing fruit is 110,120 hectares (equivalent to about 20.31 million coconut trees), accounting for 92.33% of the province's coconut area.

Currently, the province has 30,355 hectares of industrial coconut production according to organic standards (USDA, EU, China, JAS, Kora,...), accounting for 25.45% of the province's total coconut area. In addition, there are 156 codes for fresh coconut growing areas and 17 codes for coconut packaging facilities that have been granted codes by China Customs that are eligible to export to the Chinese market.

Coconut varieties include: tall coconut (industrial processing), green coconut, yellow coconut, green strawberry coconut, yellow strawberry coconut, etc. accounting for 83.77%; dwarf coconut (drinking water) accounting for 15.1%; wax coconut accounting for 1.14%. Coconut planting density in Vinh Long ranges from 190-200 trees/ha depending on the coconut variety, soil properties and farming practices of the household.

The expected coconut growing area by 2030 is about 132,000 hectares, with an output of 1,534.5 thousand tons, focusing on planting new coconuts and renovating aging coconut gardens with high-yield and high-quality varieties such as green ta, yellow ta, green strawberry, yellow strawberry, green Siamese coconut, wax coconut, etc. meeting VietGAP and organic standards, with a code for concentrated growing areas, developing by 2030 about 40,000-50,000 hectares of concentrated raw material areas in the sweet and sweetened communes of the province...
