US investigates Titan ship tragedy

The US Coast Guard (USCG) announced that it has opened an investigation into the cause of the explosion of the Titan submersible, which killed all five people on board while exploring the wreck of the Titanic at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

According to CBS, the head of the investigation team, Captain Jason Neubauer, said that a Marine Board of Investigation (MBI) has been established, including Canadian, French and British investigators. This is the highest level of investigation of the USCG.

The first step would be to collect evidence by salvaging the wreckage. After that, a formal hearing could be held to take witness testimony.

The main goal is to prevent similar tragedies from happening again by making necessary recommendations to enhance maritime safety globally, and the authorities can recommend the possibility of civil or criminal prosecution when necessary, Captain Neubauer stressed.
