By 2024, the whole province will replant 130 hectares of coffee.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hong Phuong said that according to the plan, in 2024, the whole province will continue to replant 130 hectares of coffee. Of which, 110 hectares will be replanted; 20 hectares will be renovated and restored by intercropping fruit trees.

To achieve the above goal, the agricultural sector is continuing to study the promulgated coffee replanting process to make adjustments suitable to production practices. Supplementing safe production processes, VietGap, ecological organic, agroforestry in accordance with the requirements of domestic and international consumption markets; conducting trials of a number of seed production models, high-tech farming models (saving irrigation, automatic fertilizer injection...), and ecological organic coffee production as a basis for replication in the area.

Regarding seedlings, a Catimor coffee seedling garden of 0.5 ha with 1,890 trees (equivalent to 800 kg of seeds/year) has been certified to obtain seeds for replanting in the area. At the same time, inspection and supervision of coffee seed production and trading establishments in the area have been strengthened.

Coordinate with organizations and projects to implement a number of topics and projects on testing and selecting new, high-quality varieties as a basis for supplementing the production variety structure in the province.

According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, implementing the coffee replanting project for the period 2021 - 2025, in 2023, the whole province will replant 152.5 hectares of coffee.

Of which, the replanting area by cutting method is 20 ha, replanting by new planting method is 132.5 ha. Bringing the coffee replanting area in the period of 2021 - 2023 to over 270 ha.

The main coffee varieties for replanting are Catimor and THA1. The main areas of implementation are in the communes of Huong Phung, Huong Tan, Tan Hop, Tan Lien, Huong Viet, Ba Tang and Khe Sanh town, Huong Hoa district.

Through actual inspection, the coffee gardens after replanting all developed well, many gardens have yielded harvests, with yields reaching over 18 tons of fresh fruit/ha, twice as high as those in gardens that have not been replanted.
