Danger of flying kites near power lines

Việt NamViệt Nam12/10/2024

The autumn sky is clear and the wind is strong, so these past few days Mr. Hung has been meticulously making kites so that when his grandson is off school on the weekend, they can fly them. This time, his grandson will definitely like it because the kite is several times bigger than the ones he has made before.

After a week of hard work, Mr. Hung finished the kite. It was not raining on the weekend so the grandfather and grandson took it out to the main road to fly it. The wind was strong and the kite flew high. While the grandfather and grandson were happily flying the kite, Mr. Quan, the Party cell secretary and head of the residential area, came out and reminded them:

- I suggest you two take down the kite right away.

Hearing that, Mr. Hung immediately said angrily:

- My grandpa and I are playing on the street, not in your yard, so why are you forbidding us?

Seeing Mr. Hung speak bluntly, Mr. Quan gently said:

- Do you remember that just last month, our neighborhood had a power outage all day? That day, your family had a memorial service and it was hot, so you called me urgently to ask when the power would come back. The reason for the power outage that day was because some young people in our neighborhood flew kites that fell into the power lines, causing a short circuit and a widespread power outage.

Now he brought the kite here for me to fly. If it accidentally gets caught in the electric wire and causes an accident, the whole village will suffer from power outage, and will also be fined from 5-10 million VND. Not to mention, flying a kite near a high voltage power line is very dangerous to your life.

Listening to Mr. Quan, Mr. Thanh, who was playing nearby, also commented:

- I think Uncle Quan is right. Flying kites near power lines is very dangerous. Every year, I heard that our province has hundreds of electrical accidents due to kite flying. In other provinces, there are even cases of death due to kite flying near power lines. You two should go to the dike to fly kites, a little further away from power lines for safety.

Mr. Hung understood and nodded:

- Thanks for the reminder. My grandpa and I will put the kite away and wait until tomorrow morning when we have time to fly it safely.
