Marilyn Monroe's old house becomes historical and cultural relic

Marilyn Monroe fans have won a battle to preserve her legacy in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles home where Monroe briefly lived and died has been declared a historic cultural site and an 8m tall statue called “Forever Marilyn” will remain in place.

The Los Angeles City Council voted to demolish the home in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood after a long battle. Marilyn Monroe bought the home for $75,000 and died just months later, on August 4, 1962, of a drug overdose. The current owners, Brinah Milstein and Roy Bank, bought the home for $8.35 million and have applied for demolition permits, but have faced opposition from fans. The current owners live next door and want to raze the home to expand their own property.
