On November 10, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu officially took responsibility for the September attack on Hezbollah, in which thousands of handheld pagers exploded across Lebanon and Syria on September 17-18.

Jewsih News reported that on November 10, speaking at the weekly cabinet meeting, Mr. Netanyahu stated: "There are senior officials in the defense establishment and the political class in charge of them who oppose the campaign using pagers, as well as the removal of (Hezbollah leader Hassan) Nasrallah."

According to the Israeli Prime Minister, when he wanted to remove leader Nasrallah and advance on Rafah, the Hamas stronghold in Gaza, and other places, there were people in the cabinet who opposed it.

He insisted he "wanted to launch a campaign to attack pagers", despite voices in his cabinet warning that "the US would object".

It was the first time an Israeli official had publicly acknowledged Israel's role in the attack, which sharply escalated cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah that have lasted since October 2023.

The operation involved the detonation of thousands of explosive-laden pagers and hundreds of walkie-talkies belonging to Hezbollah members across Lebanon and Syria. According to Lebanese reports, at least 42 people were killed and more than 3,400 were injured in the attack.

For weeks afterward, Israel refused to comment on the explosion or admit responsibility. According to Israeli media reports, each Hezbollah communications device that exploded was detonated individually, and Israeli intelligence officers knew exactly which terrorist was being targeted, his location, and whether others were nearby.

Just over a week after the incident, Israeli Air Force fighter jets dropped dozens of bunker-busting bombs on Hezbollah's headquarters in central Beirut, Lebanon, killing the movement's leader Nasrallah.

Hezbollah has attacked Israel almost daily since October 8, 2023, a day after Hamas launched a deadly offensive that sparked the conflict in Gaza. The attacks have so far killed more than 60 people and caused widespread damage. Tens of thousands of Israelis remain internally displaced by the violence.
