Cannes 2023 award-winning film directed by Tran Anh Hung hits Vietnamese theaters

On March 1, distributor CJ HK Entertainment officially announced the good news to fans of director Tran Anh Hung that his work will be released to Vietnamese audiences. In May 2023, the film premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival and received a 7-minute standing ovation and many positive responses from international film critics and media.

The film is set in the French countryside in 1885, revolving around the romance between female chef Eugénie (played by Juliette Binoche) and Dodin (played by Benoît Magimel) - a culinary expert with a passion for creating dishes that are complete in both flavor and appearance.

Starting from a love of food to create many exquisite and splendid dishes together for 20 years, attracting diners from all over the world to enjoy, love gradually blossomed between Eugénie and Dodin. However, Eugénie was a woman who loved freedom and was not ready to marry Dodin. To conquer her heart, Dodin decided to go into the kitchen, cooking for the first time for the person he loved.

Director Tran Anh Hung took inspiration from the fictional gourmet character Dodin-Bouffant in the famous novel "La Vie et la Passion de Dodin-Bouffant, Gourmet" by Swiss writer Marvel Rouff.

To recreate the most meticulous French culinary masterpieces, director Tran Anh Hung also worked with consultant Pierre Gagnaire - a famous chef with 14 Michelin stars.

French-Vietnamese director Tran Anh Hung is a familiar name in Vietnamese cinema and has made many impressions on world cinema. His name is associated with many impressive works, expressing a unique artistic language such as "The Scent of Green Papaya" - the only Vietnamese-language film officially nominated for the best foreign language film of the Oscars, or the films "Vertical Summer", "And He Came in the Rain", "Norwegian Wood", "Eternal".
