'Sao Mai' Thu An sings contemporary folk songs

Sao Mai 2022 runner-up - Thu An - released the song "Tu Than" - contemporary folk genre, with a dance pop style arrangement.

The song was composed by Pham Viet Tuan, has a fast tempo, and is inspired by many images related to Northern culture such as the custom of chewing betel, conical hats with quai thao, and quan ho singing.

In the MV, Thu An wears costumes stylized from the traditional Ao Tu Than, sings and dances with dancers. Originally a folk singer, not strong in dancing, Thu An learned to dance and play the zither for half a year to have a beautiful image in the MV. During the filming, the singer had to immerse herself in cold water to have beautiful scenes on the water, at the Tinh Hoa Bac Bo real scene area (outside of Hanoi ). The video director is Vu Hong Thang, the person behind many MVs such as Cung zither broken in two (Chi Pu), Het thuong can nho (Duc Phuc), Roi bo (Hoa Minzy).

After Sao Mai 2022, Thu An pursued folk music but could not find a place, because the Northern market had many veteran singers associated with this music genre. Switching to contemporary folk singing, she wanted to target young audiences.

The singer said: "I am not afraid or feel inferior to the seniors who have been successful with this music genre such as Hoang Thuy Linh and Hoa Mizy. They are examples for me to learn from and strive for." After Tu Than , Thu An will release five songs with similar colors.

Thu An, 24 years old, graduated from the intermediate vocal music program of the Military University of Culture and Arts. At the age of 18, she was in the top 10 of the Hoa Lu Beauty Contest (Miss Ninh Binh Province). At the National Television Singing Festival - Sao Mai 2022, she won second prize in the folk style. In the final, her performances of Dau Noi Nhan Tinh and Xam Kieu (sung with artist Thanh Ngoan) were highly appreciated by the judges. She is currently working under a new stage name - An Thu An.
