China has been accelerating breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence (AI) development, with the publication of 1,509 major models so far, topping the 3,755 major models published globally.
According to the China Institute of Information and Communications, the number of global AI enterprises has exceeded 35,000, of which more than 5,100 are headquartered in the country.
In addition, the total number of unicorns globally has exceeded 271, of which 71 are based in China, accounting for 26% of the total number of such enterprises globally.
China now has more than 300 listed AI enterprises, generating about 70% of the total revenue of the domestic AI industry.
The innovation areas of AI unicorns span a wide range, with the top five today being large-scale modeling, self-driving cars, smart robots, commercial AI applications, and smart computer chips.
Yu Xiaohui, president of the China Institute of Information and Communications Research, said that China's AI industry is continuously expanding with new technologies, new applications and new models, contributing to high-quality economic development as an important growth engine.
Furthermore, the country's authorities have begun studying methods to measure the market size of the AI industry, preliminarily established a corresponding index framework, and initiated standardization efforts with relevant standards officially licensed for projects./.
