China shows goodwill towards Russia on military cooperation, strongly opposes the US for this unilateral action

On December 28, at a press conference, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said that the country is willing to strengthen trust with Russia in the defense sector, and at the same time opposes the US unilateral withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF).

Earlier this month, Russian President Vladimir Putin described his country's relations with China as one of the greatest guarantees of stability in the world , praising the two countries for their effective cooperation and friendship that is not aimed against any third party.

Referring to the above comments, the Chinese official affirmed that Beijing “is willing to make efforts, together with the Russian armed forces, to continue to enhance mutual trust in the military field, jointly implement the Global Security Initiative, jointly safeguard international justice and objectivity, contribute to maintaining international and regional security and stability, and pursue the goal of creating a community with a common destiny for mankind.”

According to Mr. Ngo Khiem, in recent years, Russia-China relations have developed steadily, military cooperation between the two countries has deepened, and the strategic content of the relationship has been constantly expanded.

The Chinese military expressed its willingness to work with Russia to fully implement all the agreements reached by the two countries' leaders and "further strengthen strategic cooperation and coordination," including through joint maritime and air patrols, exercises, training and other engagements.

Meanwhile, referring to the US unilateral withdrawal from the INF, Mr. Ngo Khiem stated: "This will cause negative consequences in many aspects. China opposes the US unilateral withdrawal from the Treaty as well as political polarization."

He noted that the treaty signed during the Cold War helped maintain global stability and strategic balance.

The United States suspended its obligations under the INF on February 2, 2019, alleging that Russia had violated the terms of the treaty by developing the 9M729 missile. Moscow has denied the allegations, blaming Washington for deploying missile defense systems in Europe.

On August 2, 2019, Russia announced the expiration of the INF Treaty.
