Hanoi University no longer keeps Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's high school diploma.

Hanoi University of Foreign Languages (now Hanoi University) was the first unit to award a bachelor's degree to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet (Venerable Thich Chan Quang).

Up to now, this can be considered the first university where Mr. Viet submitted his high school diploma as an admission condition for university study.

Responding to Dan Tri reporter on August 15, a representative of Hanoi University said that the school no longer has Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's enrollment records (including his high school diploma) because according to regulations, the enrollment records must be kept until the end of the course.

Regarding how the school will handle Mr. Viet's university degree if the verification process shows that Mr. Viet does not have a high school diploma, a representative of Hanoi University said that after receiving official information from the authorities about Mr. Viet's high school diploma, the school will handle it according to regulations.

In addition, Hanoi University also informed that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet studied English at the University of Foreign Languages (now Hanoi University) from August 1994 to December 2000, distance learning system. The university degree was granted in early 2001. The training period of 6 years and 4 months is within the allowed time frame for the distance learning system.

Previously, on the morning of August 13, confirming with Dan Tri reporter, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that this unit had just sent a document reporting to the Government Committee for Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs about verifying the high school diploma of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet.

Specifically, on July 30, 2024, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City had a working session with the inspection team of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs - Ministry of Home Affairs through a letter of introduction to verify the learning process of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet.

During the working session, the Department of Education and Training coordinated with the inspection team to review all records including the list of candidates who graduated from supplementary high school and the list of names and scores of all candidates who took the exam on June 6, 1989.

At the end of the inspection process, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City confirmed that the name Vuong Tan Viet (born in 1959) was not on the list of candidates and the score sheet of the 1989 high school supplementary graduation exam of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Vuong Tan Viet recently caused a stir when he successfully defended his doctoral thesis at Hanoi Law University in a period of 2 years and 3 months.

On August 13, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a notice to the press stating that through the initial review process, there was reason to doubt the quality of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's high school diploma.

The Ministry of Education and Training will coordinate to establish a team to evaluate the doctoral thesis of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet at the University of Law.

Mr. Vuong Tan Viet (born in 1959) graduated with a bachelor's degree in English in 2001 from the University of Foreign Languages - now Hanoi University; graduated with a bachelor's degree in Law in 2019 from Hanoi Law University (second degree - study and work).

Mr. Viet was recognized as a graduate and awarded a Bachelor of Law degree 2 - Part-time study on January 15, 2019, with excellent ranking.

On November 26, 2019, Mr. Vuong Tan Viet was admitted to the 25B PhD course (2019-2023 school year) of Hanoi Law University.

On December 26, 2019, the student was recognized as a doctoral student. On December 9, 2021, this student successfully defended his doctoral thesis at the school level.

"On March 17, 2022, the doctoral student was awarded a PhD in Constitutional and Administrative Law under Decision No. 1141/QD-DHLHN of Hanoi Law University," the press release stated.
