The only goal helped U23 Vietnam win the Southeast Asian Championship. On the evening of July 29, the U23 Vietnam team defeated Indonesia 1-0 in the final of the 2025 Southeast Asian Championship held at Bung Karno Stadium.

Among the analytical articles, Bola – Indonesia’s leading sports newspaper – pointed out four fatal weaknesses that forced their team to bow their heads in “indisputable” defeat to their regional rivals.

First, Bola focused on the poor finishing of U23 Indonesia: “As usual, U23 Indonesia started impressively with the mobility of the two wings Rahmat Arjuna and Rayhan Hannan. Both Raven and Hannan had clear opportunities to score, but they could not get past goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien.”

The page also expressed frustration with the home team's lack of diversity in their playing style, especially the overused long throw-in tactic: "In fact, U23 Indonesia's long throw-in was often blocked by Vietnam and used to counterattack. These situations happened repeatedly, dragging on and on, making the match disjointed and ineffective."

Once a powerful weapon, the throw-in technique of U23 Indonesia is now considered a weakness. Kompas newspaper said that U23 Indonesia made elementary technical errors and lacked creativity in playing style.

This page wrote: “The U23 Indonesian players often make basic and incomprehensible mistakes, from simple passes that go astray to dribbling the ball out of bounds and then regrettably losing the ball. In addition, unnecessary fouls do not discourage opponents but on the contrary, they give U23 Vietnam more confidence.”

The Indonesian media also questioned the coaching staff’s tactics when prioritizing the use of players who are more speedy than technical. They said that this choice significantly reduced the team’s creativity, leaving the U23 Indonesia team lacking unexpected solutions to change the game.
