Ukraine attacks deep into Russian territory?

Ukrainian drones attacked an industrial facility in the Russian republic of Chuvashia on the night of March 8 and early morning of March 9, according to Chuvashia leader Oleg Nikolayev.

The facility attacked by the drone was about 1,300 km from the border with Ukraine, marking one of the deepest attacks on Russian territory by a Ukrainian UAV, according to Reuters.

Ukrainian servicemen fire a BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket system towards Russian soldiers, near the town of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region (Ukraine) on February 15.

Mr. Nikolayev wrote on the Telegram messaging app that the attack caused no casualties. He did not provide further details about the attack and the extent of the damage remained unclear.

Earlier, RIA news agency cited data from the Russian Ministry of Defense saying that the country's air defense units destroyed 88 Ukrainian UAVs on the night of March 8 and early morning of March 9. There was no information about casualties or damage.

The Russian Defense Ministry said 52 Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed in Belgorod Oblast, while 13 were in Lipetsk Oblast and nine were in Rostov Oblast. The Russian Defense Ministry also said the remaining UAVs were shot down in other Russian Oblasts, including Voronezh, Astrakhan, Krasnodar, Ryazan and Kursk.

According to unofficial Russian news channels on Telegram, Ukrainian attacks on Ryazan and Lipetsk targeted local oil refineries.

Ukrainian Lieutenant Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, said the Novolipetsk metallurgical plant in Lipetsk had been attacked, but did not provide evidence.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force announced that its air defense forces shot down 73 out of 119 UAVs launched by Russia into Ukraine on the night of March 8 and early morning of March 9, according to Reuters.

The Ukrainian Air Force also said that 37 other Russian-launched drones were “lost,” but did not provide details. The Ukrainian military said that losses were recorded in six regions of Ukraine, but did not immediately provide details, according to Reuters.

There is currently no information about the reaction from Russia or Ukraine to the other side's accusations and statements.
