The application of digital maps is not only a technological step forward but also an important driving force for building a smart and sustainable tourism . Thereby contributing to improving the experience for tourists and preserving the cultural and natural values of the locality.
Innovative approach to tourism
Digital maps are not just a positioning tool but also a platform that integrates multidimensional information, from geographic location, destination information, to tourism services such as accommodation, dining and transportation. With the development of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, digital maps provide an intuitive interactive experience, helping tourists easily plan their journey and explore destinations comprehensively.
In Da Lat, the Art Tourism Map launched on August 29, 2024, is a typical example. Designed by Pho Ben Doi Art Space and Behalf Studio, this product is not only a navigation tool but also connects art, music and cultural destinations, telling stories about the history and creativity of the city. Mr. Nguyen Hien - Founder of Pho Ben Doi, shared: "We have implemented and always hope that the Art Tourism Map will become a detailed tool, helping visitors understand more deeply about Da Lat, from cultural and artistic values to historical stories. Every day, we standardize the content and images of the functions on the map so that through it, visitors will better understand the place they are going to". The digitalized art map product in the coming time will not only enhance the experience for visitors but also contribute to promoting the image of Da Lat as a unique cultural destination.

Many other initiatives in Lam Dong are also taking advantage of digital maps to innovate the tourism industry. The “Da Lat Online” application has provided detailed information about tourist attractions, night food courts and walking streets such as Lam Vien Square or Da Lat Night Market. Free wifi systems in central areas support visitors to easily access digital maps. Notably, at many famous tourist destinations, homestays and 3-4 star hotels in wards in Da Lat have begun to integrate VR360 technology. This technology helps visually introduce accommodation spaces and tourism experiences, while allowing the use of real-time data to manage visitor traffic. Thereby, both enhancing the experience for visitors and contributing to environmental protection and towards sustainable tourism development.
Mr. Nguyen Huy Ha - Deputy Director of Mobifone Lam Dong, a pioneer in VR360 application, shared: "VR360 technology brings intuitive and vivid experiences, helping to promote Lam Dong's destinations to domestic and foreign tourists". These efforts not only improve the quality of the experience but also bring Lam Dong's tourism image to the international arena.

Connecting Indigenous Culture Through Digital Maps
In addition to enhancing the tourist experience, digital maps also play an important role in connecting tourists with local culture, effectively promoting community tourism. In Quang Lap commune, Avocado Farm is an agricultural tourism destination recognized by the Provincial People's Committee that has taken advantage of digital maps on Google Maps to attract tourists. Mr. Phan Thanh Nhan - farm manager, said: "We have registered to apply VR360 technology, to bring a virtual tour experience, helping tourists clearly visualize the destination before visiting. This technology not only attracts tourists but also helps promote local agricultural products very effectively."
Mr. Tran Van Minh - a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City to Avocado Farm shared: "The digital map on Google Maps helps me easily find my way to the farm, and the VR360 experience gives me a panoramic view of the green space and interesting activities here. This makes me more excited when deciding to visit". In parallel, the farm is also linked to Churu Cultural Village, where visitors can participate in unique cultural activities such as pottery making, brocade weaving, enjoying rice wine and feeling the sound of gongs.

At Churu Cultural Village, VR360 technology vividly recreates the indigenous cultural space. Ms. Ma Thuan - a tour guide at the village shared with pride: “Digital maps and VR360 have brought Churu culture closer to tourists everywhere. Before coming, they can experience the village space through technology, so when they set foot here, I just need to welcome and lead them to immerse themselves in unique cultural values. I see that technology not only helps increase the number of tourists, but also helps them appreciate more the cultural values that we have preserved for generations.”
Ms. Nguyen Thuy Oanh - a tourist shared: “Thanks to the digital map, I easily found my way to Churu Cultural Village and had a wonderful experience. This technology not only helps with positioning but also provides detailed information about cultural activities, making my trip more meaningful. I am very impressed with how technology helps me explore indigenous culture in a very intimate way”. These experiences not only help preserve and promote local cultural values but also create a stable source of income for the community, contributing to the sustainable development of tourism.
The application of digital maps, combined with advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR) and VR360, is becoming the golden key for Lam Dong to fully exploit its tourism potential, meeting the increasing demands of domestic and international tourists. To realize this vision, in the coming time, Lam Dong province will continue to promote the effective implementation of Resolution 18-NQ/TU of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, focusing on strong investment in technology infrastructure, developing high-quality human resources and promoting close links between agencies, businesses and local communities.
Specific solutions such as expanding the free wifi system at tourist attractions, upgrading smart tourism applications with a friendly interface and integrating more advanced technologies will help Lam Dong better meet the diverse needs of tourists.
