While the car was stopping, suddenly a truck rushed in from behind and hit the car under the truck in front, causing the pregnant woman to be seriously injured.
Immediately after the accident, Ms. T. was transferred to Thu Cuc General Hospital ( Hanoi ) with severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding. As soon as she arrived at the hospital gate, she was assisted by the security team and taken straight to the emergency room.
Here, doctors performed an ultrasound, made a quick diagnosis and discovered that the pregnant woman had signs of a complicated uterine rupture with severe fetal distress - the fetal heart rate was only 69 beats per minute, putting her in critical condition. An emergency cesarean section was initiated in a "race against death" situation.
When opening the abdomen, the surgical team discovered that the mother's uterus had ruptured across the lower segment, extending down to the left waist, above the old surgical scar. There was more than 300ml of red blood and blood clots in the abdomen.
The 2.8kg baby boy was taken out of his mother's womb in a state of severe asphyxia. Thanks to the timely treatment of the neonatal resuscitation team, after 5 minutes the baby started crying and achieved an APGAR score of 10 points after 10 minutes. The baby was transferred to the neonatal unit for continued active monitoring.
For the mother, the uterine tear extends deep down to the opening of the cervix, causing the entire lower part of the front and back of the uterus to become hemorrhagic, causing serious damage.
Doctors were forced to remove part of the uterus, but keep both ovaries to preserve hormones and avoid affecting the long-term health of the mother.
After obstetric management, the patient was consulted with surgeons to assess the risk of multiple organ damage after the accident. The mother was transfused with 4 units of blood and clotting factors.
After more than 2 hours and 30 minutes, the surgery was successful. The patient was transferred to the intensive care unit - the department of anesthesia and resuscitation for further monitoring.
After a week of intensive treatment, both mother and baby's health stabilized, recovered well and were discharged from the hospital to the joy of the family and the medical team.
