Exports of ginger, turmeric and other spices decreased by 28.3% in volume and increased by 9.9% in value.

Currently, our country ranks third in the world in supplying and processing spices after India and China. The entire Vietnamese spice industry has 14 factories with deep processing technology. Previously in 2023, ginger, turmeric and some other spices were exported to 34,976 tons with an export value of 49.3 million USD, a sharp increase of 222.4% compared to 2022. Currently, there are 30 member enterprises of VPSA participating in the export of ginger and turmeric, along with about 80 other enterprises outside VPSA.

In particular, ginger is a familiar and popular item for Vietnamese people, but abroad, ginger is highly sought after, popular and has a high price.

Vietnamese ginger is often exported in frozen form, in addition, processed Vietnamese ginger is also consumed quite strongly, often used as a spice and used to support digestive system activities, reduce nausea, help fight flu and common cold.

In particular, ginger jam is a very popular product in cold countries. In addition to its delicious aroma, Vietnamese ginger is also cheaper than domestic products in other countries.

In the same spice group as ginger is turmeric. Turmeric originated in India, and although it is popular in Vietnam, it is a rare spice that is hard to find in the world, only found in some tropical countries such as India, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and Nilgeria.

Vietnam is one of the countries with the largest turmeric growing area in the world, with more than 50,000 hectares (as of 2021), mainly in the Central and Central Highlands provinces, such as Quang Nam , Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak, Dak Nong... Vietnamese turmeric has good quality, high curcumin content, from 3-5%.

For turmeric, turmeric starch is the most sought-after product in many countries. Vietnamese turmeric starch is considered to have a beautiful color, pleasant aroma, and retains the curcumin content in turmeric, an active ingredient with many benefits for health and beauty; anti-cancer, digestive support, liver protection, immune system enhancement, memory improvement, and skin whitening.

It is expected that the total export turnover of Vietnam's spices by 2025 could reach about 2 billion USD, with an export volume of about 500,000 tons.
