50 students hospitalized for digestive disorders

Lao Cai Department of Health has directed the following units: Food Safety Department, Center for Disease Control to conduct investigation and collect samples for testing.

Preliminary investigation results show that in the early morning of October 9, a number of students in the dormitory of Lao Cai College, campus 1 (Bac Cuong ward, Lao Cai city) showed signs of abdominal pain, vomiting, loose stools, fever, and were taken to Hung Thinh Hospital for treatment by teachers and their families. As of the morning of October 10, 50 students in the dormitory of Lao Cai College, campus 1 were hospitalized.

Lao Cai Center for Disease Control took water samples at kitchen water tank No. 1.

The Food Safety Department has taken food samples stored in the kitchen of Lao Cai College and sent them to the Central Institute for Testing.

The Center for Disease Control also took water and waste samples from patients for testing to determine the specific cause.

Currently, the 50 cases are being monitored and treated at the Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Surgery, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics of Hung Thinh General Hospital. The patients' condition is stable, with no serious developments.

Lao Cai College is continuing to monitor the health of students in the dormitory and has announced the temporary suspension of the kitchen at campus 1 until the authorities have a conclusion.
